A Christmas theme park inside a cave, and an elf named Judy who made it magical for our kids.
Our verdict
We loved SantaPark. The VEP tour was phenomenal and absolutely worth it, even if we wished the price included skipping the entry and Elf School lines.
What we loved
- The VEP (Very Elfish Person) tour
- Elf Judy
- Bilingual English-Finnish Christmas books
What we’d change
- VEP doesn’t skip the entry line
- VEP doesn’t skip the Elf School line
Is SantaPark worth it?
Yes. We loved SantaPark, and it was the better Santa experience of our two (sorry, Santa Claus Village).
SantaPark bills itself as the world’s only underground Christmas theme park. It’s built inside a cavern near Rovaniemi Airport and calls itself the home cavern of Santa Claus.
What is the SantaPark VEP tour, and is it worth the price?
The Very Elfish Person tour is SantaPark’s guided package with express access to Santa. Ours was phenomenal and absolutely worth it.
Elf Judy was incredible and made the whole experience magical for our kids. Given the price, I wish the tour also included skip-the-line access for entry and for Elf School, but overall it was wonderful.
Elf Judy, we adore you. If you ever have an elf social media account, please find us, especially if you ever get to a Phillies game!
When should you arrive at SantaPark?
At opening. That’s what we did, and we’d do it again.
What is there to do inside SantaPark?
Elf School, the Elf Show, the Elf Workshop, Mrs. Gingerbread’s Bakery, the Magic Train Ride, Santa’s Office and Post Office, and the Toy Factory shops.
You also pass under the Arctic Circle inside the cavern.
What souvenir is worth buying at SantaPark?
We bought bilingual English-Finnish Christmas books, and they’ll be treasured keepsakes.
SantaPark or Santa Claus Village?
SantaPark. If you only have time for one, do this one.
Santa Claus Village is an outdoor village open every day of the year; SantaPark is a ticketed indoor theme park. Here’s our Santa Claus Village review.
When is SantaPark open?
For winter 2026, Santa and the elves return on October 31, 2026.
Ticket prices change by date, so check SantaPark’s site. Special SantaPark dinners run on December 24, 25 and 31.
What is the difference between a SantaPark ticket and the VEP pass?
The ticket gets you in and includes Santa. The VEP pass, for a family of four, adds a fast line to Santa, lunch, a printed photo and a pile of small ceremonies. It does not, in our experience, skip the front door or Elf School.
| Entrance ticket | VEP pass | |
|---|---|---|
| Price | From €42 adult, €37 child aged 3 to 12, under 3 free, plus a booking fee | Not published on the VEP page we checked. A booking fee is added |
| Who it covers | Per person, one day | Written as a family of 4 |
| Santa | A meeting in his office. Your own camera is allowed | A fast, special line to meet Santa, gifts, and a printed A4 family photo |
| Also included | Elf School, the show, Magic Train, post office, workshop, Arctic Circle crossing, shops | Those, plus gingerbread decorating, diplomas, elf hats, a warm drink, a lanyard and lunch for 4 |
| What “priority” covered for us | We didn’t test the regular line | The Santa line. Not the entry line, and not Elf School |
| Season | 31 Oct 2026 to 23 Jan 2027 | Same season. It is an upgrade to a day ticket, not a different calendar |
SantaPark sells both, and the VEP page we checked in November 2026 lists what is included and does not list a price. We are not going to repeat an old price or guess the current one. The entrance ticket does have a published starting price. A booking fee is added at checkout on both, and the park doesn’t print the size of that fee. Prices checked November 2026.
When is SantaPark open, and what time should you arrive?
For winter 2026 to 2027, from 31 October to 23 January. We arrived at opening and would do that again.
Hours, from SantaPark: 31 October 2026, 10:00 to 18:00. All of November, 10:00 to 18:00. 1 to 23 December, 10:00 to 18:00 on weekdays and 09:00 to 18:00 on weekends. 24 to 31 December, 09:00 to 18:00 every day. 1 to 23 January 2027, 10:00 to 18:00. After 23 January the cave is done for the season, even if your hotel is still in full winter. That catches people who book “Lapland in February” and assume SantaPark comes with it. It doesn’t.
Opening is when the regular line is shortest and when the kids still have the energy for Elf School. We got there then. A late afternoon arrival in December is how you pay for a cavern and spend it in a corridor. Special SantaPark dinners run on 24, 25 and 31 December. We weren’t there for those.
How long do you need, and what ages is it best for?
It is sold as a full day. Our kids, then 9 and 6, were the right age for Elf School. Under 3 is free and will not do the diploma.
SantaPark calls the entrance ticket valid for one full day in the winter season, and the ticket includes the meeting, Elf School, the Magic Train, the show, the post office, the workshop and the underground Arctic Circle crossing. We didn’t time the visit with a stopwatch. We arrived at opening and were not rushing. If you have a toddler, the train and the show still work, and Elf School is aimed at children who can follow an elf. The child price is 3 to 12. That matched our two.
Getting there is easy by Lapland standards. The park is about 2 kilometres from the airport and 7 kilometres from the city centre, with free guest parking. Local bus, taxi, or your own car all work. From Apukka it was about 15 minutes. We didn’t need a tour package to reach the door. The village comparison is the other half of this decision: outdoors and free, versus indoors and ticketed.
More questions
Is SantaPark underground?
Yes. SantaPark is built inside a cavern near Rovaniemi Airport.
Is the VEP pass worth it?
For us, yes. Elf Judy made the day, and the fast line to Santa was the part we had paid for. It was not worth it as a promise to skip every line. We still queued to get in, and we still queued for Elf School. If your only goal is meeting Santa, a regular ticket includes that meeting. Buy VEP if you want the lunch, the printed photo, the gingerbread and a guide-shaped elf, and you have checked today’s price, because the site didn’t show us one.
Does VEP skip the line?
It skips the regular line to meet Santa. That is what SantaPark says, and it matches what we got. It did not skip the entry line or the Elf School line on our visit. Read “priority” as Santa, not as the whole building.
How much is SantaPark?
Entrance starts at €42 for an adult and €37 for a child aged 3 to 12. Under 3 is free. A booking fee is added. The VEP pass price was not on the page we checked in November 2026, so it is not on this one either.
What ages is SantaPark best for?
Our kids, then 9 and 6, were fully in it. The priced child band is 3 to 12. Younger siblings get in free and will enjoy the train more than Elf School.
Is SantaPark open in February?
Not in the 2026 to 2027 season. The published close is 23 January 2027. February is for snow, the lights and the ski hill, not for this cavern.
